District of Chetwynd 2009 Tax Notices Have Been Mailed The 2009 Tax Notices have now been mailed. If you have not received a tax notice yet, please contact the District of Chetwynd municipal office. Property taxes cover the fiscal year January 1st – December 31st and are due the first business day in July. Under the Community Charter, the municipality must charge a 10% penalty on late taxes, which include the unclaimed Home Owner Grant (HOG) portion of your taxes. Until the Home Owner Grant is claimed, that portion of the balance of your tax account is considered taxes outstanding. The tax deadline is 4:30 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2009. Our office is open 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Please remember that Wednesday July 1, 2009, Canada Day, is a statutory holiday and our office will be closed. Postmarks are not accepted as proof of timely payment. You may pay by post-dated cheque to avoid the last day line-up. We will process your cheque on the appropriate day. You may pay by cash, cheque, or Interac. If your mortgage company pays your taxes, please remember to that you must still claim your HOG, if applicable, before the deadline to avoid any penalties. If you have any questions about your taxes, please contact the District Office at 250-401-4100 or drop in and see us. Kevin Franson Deputy Director of Financial Administration |
