SCHEDULE “A” - License Fees

SCHEDULE “D” - Ticketing Fine Schedule

1.   For the following offences, the fines shall be:

                Sec. 6(a) unlicensed dog                     Sec. 6(b) dog not wearing a tag

                Sec. 6(c) dog running at large, and   Sec. 6(d) dog excrement

For the first offence             $30.00

For the second offence       $55.00

For the third and subsequent offences  $110.00

2.             For the following offences, the fines shall be:

                Sec. 5(2) Bitch in Heat and at Large

                Sec. 6(e) Barking Dog

                Sec. 6(f)  Vicious or Diseased Animal

                For the first offence             $  75.00

                For the second offence       $150.00

               

For the third offence the dog may be seized and;

·                      pursuant to Sec. 6(d) Vicious or Diseased Animal, and Sec. 5(2) Bitch in Heat and at large, application may be made to the Provincial Court for an order to have the dog destroyed or otherwise disposed.  Costs will be charged to the owner.

·                      pursuant to Sec. 6(e) Barking Dog, the dog may be held at the Pound for a maximum of seven days at the request of the owner to allow them an opportunity to provide proof of the purchase of an “anti-barking collar” or other silencing device.  The dog may then be released on the understanding that the fourth offence will result in the seizure and disposal of the offending animal.

·                      Where a dog is seized pursuant to Sec. 6(e), and the owner does not attempt to claim the dog within 4 days, and or where the owner refuses to purchase a silencing device as described above, the Animal Control Officer may dispose of the dog.

 

All costs incurred will be charged against the owner.

 

 

APPENDIX “A” - Livestock Protection Act RSBC 1979

“Dogs causing injury or damage;”

6.                 Where a person finds a dog

(a) running at large; and

(b) attacking or viciously pursuing a person or a domestic animal, he may kill the dog.

 

“Order to kill dog”

(1)           The Provincial Court may, on application and on being satisfied that a dog has killed or injured, or is likely to kill or injure, a person or a domestic animal, order that the dog be killed in a manner prescribed in the order.

(2)           A peace officer may, with the consent of the commissioner and being satisfied that the situation is urgent and an application cannot reasonably be made to the court under subsection (1), make an order under subsection (1).

(3)           A consent under subsection (2) shall be in writing, but the commissioner may, if he is of the opinion that the situation is urgent, give his consent verbally.

 

 


Adopt a Dog Program

The District of Chetwynd occationally has dogs for adoption.  Residents are encouraged to make an application for adoption of pound dogs.  Once your application has been received by our District Office, it can take up to 2 weeks for approval.  You would then be contacted by our office. Dogs are generally not held for great lengths of time, so act quickly to take home your very own pet.
