Old Library Demolition Schedule

***Update***
There has been a minor delay in the project and work will be delayed until early next week.

The demolition of the old library begins tomorrow!

Last week, the hazardous-materials abatement contractor completed additional materials testing and air-quality sampling to ensure public safety. All of the appropriate permits will be in place before any work begins.

Today, May 20, the contractor will close the narrow lane behind the Rec Centre and will install construction fencing for site safety and this will impact student parking for High School students, although only for the short term. None of the exit doors on the west wall of the curling arena will be obstructed.

Tomorrow, May 21, the contractors will raze the building, a process expected to take approximately four hours, and then will transport all of the waste to the landfill. They anticipate completing demolition and the rough grading of the site by Monday, May 26, 2025.

To control dust, the crew will operate a high-capacity water sprayer throughout the demolition and removal activities.

Please avoid the demolition site area as much as possible to allow crews and equipment ample room to work.

After the demolition is complete, additional much-needed parking will be added to the site as part of the final phase of the Rec Centre parking lot paving project.

Please contact the District Office at 250-401-4100 with any questions or concerns.
