The Engineering Department plays an important role and works closely with Council and the Public Works Department to ensure Chetwynd remains a vibrant and livable community. Responsibilities include planning, construction, and upgrades to municipal infrastructure such as streets, water, and sanitary sewer.
Some of the work and services we provide include:
- Designing and coordinating construction for both new and existing municipal infrastructure
- Liaising with other levels of government, utility agencies and community groups on engineering issues
- Mapping & Survey, Water Quality Testing, and Municipal Utility Locates
- Providing long and short term planning for the extension and upgrade of municipal works and services to accommodate population growth and reliability of the infrastructure
- Developing long and short term capital budgets for municipal Council review and approval
- Reviewing and approving works proposed by other public and private utilities within municipal right-of-ways
- Collecting and maintaining data on municipal infrastructure for analysis and inventory
- Developing and recommending policies and bylaws to council and senior management including the administration of such documents
